The OG of croissant is coming back!
🥐 Putting the word ‘Croissant’ in the title acts as clickbait for me… it leads to a 100% chance of me clicking on the article!
I was expecting this article to be a manifesto for the OG of pastry, or to surf on the nostalgia trends; advocating for simpler times when the croissant was made with so much butter that it could clog one of your arteries on the spot. But to my surprise, the conclusion was different. The author misled me through 650 words to arrive at an interesting point:
“I’m ready for the day when taste and texture take precedence over visuals.”
This trend of going back to basics and focusing on the craft with excellence as a metric over visual fluff is something that I see spreading around. Yesterday, the founder of Arc (a browser company) announced he will be reducing the company’s communication to focus on delivery and velocity. With Apple announcing a product release for 2025, and AI products not hitting the mark, he wants to combat splashy communication and focus on what is tangible.
Similarly, ‘luxury or crafted software’ was a topic leading the discussion over the weekend. When using those two words, our imaginations usually associate them with perfectly made goods such as an Hermès bag or a Swiss watch, rarely with the digital tools we use day-to-day. However, I believe that craftsmanship is indeed coming to software, and products like Linear are built with this level of quality in mind.
So maybe, even if ‘quiet luxury’ might be over since the end of Succession, there is still hope that our croissants will return to their buttery roots!
